The Bailey Family: All About Sisters Halle, Chloe and Ski

 Ski, Chloe, and Halle Bailey are a talented trio.

Halle and Chloe made a name for themselves as tweens when they began posting videos of themselves singing covers online. While they were in front of the camera, Ski (pronounced “sky”) was filming.

The first song they ever covered was Beyoncé’s “Best Thing I Never Had” in 2011. "We burned [the song] on a CD, put it in our stereo, and our older sister was behind the tripod,” Chloe recalled to PEOPLE. “She would press 'play' with her toe as she was paying attention to the camera."

In 2023, the Bailey family grew by one when Halle welcomed her first child with boyfriend DDG.

“[We're] on cloud nine," Chloe told PEOPLE following the arrival of her nephew, Halo.

Here’s everything to know about the Bailey family — sisters Halle, Chloe and Ski — from their childhoods to their careers as adults.

Courtney and Doug Bailey welcomed Chloe and Halle in Atlanta, and the sisters grew up in nearby Mableton, Georgia. In addition to their older sister, Ski, they have a younger brother named Branson.

At the age of 3, Chloe landed her first acting role in The Fighting Temptations (2003) as the younger version of Beyoncé’s character. It turned out to be the beginning of her career as she later recalled to PEOPLE how she and Halle would demonstrate their musical talent growing up.

"We'd be performing at clubs in our church dresses in Atlanta, and then we'd bust out singing for producers outside of hotels," she said in March 2023.

Chloe and Halle moved to Los Angeles in their early teens as their careers took off. The two started posting covers to YouTube when Chloe was 13 and Halle was 11, and they quickly gained attention. Bringing things full circle, Beyoncé signed the sisters to Parkwood Entertainment when they were 18 and 16.

But while Chloe and Halle are Georgia natives, Ski considers Charleston, South Carolina, home and lives there today.

“Charleston is home. I was born here,” Ski said in a May 2023 video interview with Togethxr. “I did bounce around to New York and Atlanta, but Charleston has always been home.”

Chloe and Halle are Grammy-nominated singers

Chloe and Halle came to fame as a duo, Chloe x Halle. Since signing with Parkwood Entertainment in 2015, the sisters' careers soared with the release of their EP Sugar Symphony in 2016 and mixtape The Two of Us in 2017.

Chloe x Halle's debut album, The Kids Are Alright, followed in 2018 and earned them two Grammy nominations for best new artist and best urban contemporary album. Their next album. Ungodly Hour, released in 2020, snagged them three additional Grammy nominations, including best R&B song for "Do It."

Now that they are exploring their individual acting and solo music careers, the duo CONTINUES to support each other amid comparisons. During a 2023 interview on the Apple Music 1 show 777 Radio, Chloe spoke out about the remarks, which she previously called "shallow."

“I think out of everything, that's the thing that gets under my skin the most when people are comparing us because we are best friends, we're sisters," she said. "Sometimes we forget that we're not twins and it's like, don't mess with my blood. Don't mess with her."

Ski is proud to be part of her sisters’ journey

In her interview with Togethxr, Ski opened up about being related to the celebrated artists.

“Being the big sister for Chloe and Halle is very interesting,” she said. “To see them grow and develop it has been an enormous journey. And to be a part of it, as well, is amazing.”

She added that growing up, she felt like “a second mom” to her younger siblings.

Ski works as a paralegal and is an aspiring filmmaker

Ski has been involved in her sisters’ careers and has Hollywood ambitions, but her current job is far outside the limelight. She works as a paralegal in Charleston at a tax and estate planning law firm — a role she fell into while researching building generational wealth for her future family.

Ski previously worked on TV production crews and in PR for Chloe and Halle during their early careers. “I do have a degree in public relations, so I was always about, ‘Okay, what can we do next?’ ” she told Togethxr. “But then it got to the point where, okay, now they have people for that.”

As for the future, she wants to get back into entertainment and dreams of working in film. “I would love to be known as a world-renowned filmmaker. I want to make films that impact people, that start conversations, that cause change,” she said. “My dream project would have to be with Shonda Rhimes and Ava DuVernay.”

In 2022, Ski released a short film titled What to Do About Daddy Issues? on her Instagram.

“It was a journey to release this film. I started working on it in 2018. I became discouraged and I shelved it,” she wrote in the caption. “But God has recently urged me to finish it and release it because there’s a message that needs to be heard."

Ski continued, "And in that gap of time, I have grown even more in my journey. Things have shifted, and all of it is truly divine. There’s much more to be said but I pray this sparks conversation about healing.”

It wasn’t easy for Chloe and Halle to separate their careers

Apart from their critically acclaimed musical work together, Chloe and Halle's acting careers overlapped. Both siblings appeared on ABC's sitcom Grown-ish as twins Jazz and Sky Forster throughout 53 episodes from 2018 to 2022.

The following year, in March 2023, Chloe released her debut album, In Pieces, which was the first solo project from either sister. It marked the beginning of them working independently — an aspect that took time to get used to.

"Both of us had a lot of separation anxiety," Chloe told PEOPLE ahead of In Pieces’ release. "We were attached at the hip ever since she came out of the womb."

She continued, "We both didn't really know who we were individually without the other. There was a moment of self-doubt where I was like, 'Can I do this without my sister?’ ”

Chloe landed roles in Donald Glover's satirical thriller limited series Swarm (2023) and Peacock's musical comedy Praise This (2023).

Meanwhile, Halle was cast in the live-action adaption of The Little Mermaid (2023) and the upcoming The Color Purple movie musical, set to premiere in December. In the midst of this, she also debuted her first solo single, "Angel," with a full album in the works.

One of Halle’s most exciting career moments came when she was cast as Ariel in the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid (2023). Both Chloe and Ski were overjoyed about their sister taking on the iconic role, particularly because she was bringing racial diversity and Black representation into the world of Disney princesses.

In May 2023, Ski posted photos from the premiere on Instagram and wrote: “@hallebailey was stunning in the film. This was such a beautiful and historic moment. Proud can’t explain how I feel.”

Chloe recalled seeing the movie’s trailer for the first time during an April 2023 appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show.

"I was screaming and I was crying," Chloe told host Drew Barrymore. "I dropped everything and I was just screaming because she is a real-life mermaid, a siren, graceful in all her beauty, and people get to see what I've always seen since we were little girls.”

The sisters are all about being supportive

Chloe, Halle and Ski are incredibly encouraging of one another, whether it’s about their careers or personal lives.

“It’s always been about support,” Ski told Togethxr. “That’s the one thing that I really, really love, the support that I feel when I’m with my sisters. They’re like my best friends."

She added, "I’m one way with Chloe and I’m a different way with Halle, because ... they’re very different. But at the same time, we’re all alike. When we’re all together, we all sound alike, we all laugh alike.”

Chloe told PEOPLE that Halle supported her when she was having doubts about her solo album.

"I'd be like, 'I'm so scared. I don't know if people want to listen to this. I don't think I can do this without you,’ ” the actress said. "She'd be like, 'You always tell me to let people see what you've always seen in me since we were little girls.’ ”

As for Halle, she shared that Chloe inspired her to be more confident in herself, particularly regarding her style.

“My confidence has gotten deeper and bigger with the help of my sister,” she told Cosmopolitan in 2023. “She’s always been an extroverted, sexy, demanding kind of presence. As I’ve watched her, I’m like, 'That’s so cool.’ I hope one day I can do that. She’s helping me find my footing in this whole adult-woman world.”

Chloe and Ski kept Halle's pregnancy secret

Halle and her boyfriend, DDG, welcomed their son, Halo, in late 2023. While many fans speculated that Halle and the rapper were expecting, the actress never confirmed her pregnancy ahead of Halo's arrival.

"Best kept secret ever,” Chloe said during an interview with PEOPLE in January 2024. "I keep all her other secrets. So this was just another one in the books.”
