This year’s Ngmayem Festival of the chiefs and people of the Manya Krobo Traditional Area was a thrilling affair as Krobos from far and near trooped home to participate in the 131st edition of their cherished, well-known festival.
King Paluta, a celebrated artist known for his popular hits such as "Makoma," "Aseda," "Odo Bi Ye Bad," "Sika Aba Fie," "More Money," and "Aha Akye," showcased his musical vibrance on Thursday, October 24 at the base of the majestic Krobo Mountain. He captivated the audience with his electrifying performance, prompting everyone to join in singing and dancing to his infectious tunes.
The Ngmayem Festival was a vibrant celebration filled with an array of activities aimed at promoting community engagement and well-being. Participants engaged in health walks, took part in clean-up exercises, attended health screenings, and participated in educational forums. Additionally, thrilling events such as canoe racing and a football gala added an exciting element to the festivities. Family bazaars provided a platform for local vendors to showcase their goods, while church services offered moments of reflection and gratitude in the midst of the lively celebrations.
Bongofari, known for his captivating performances, mesmerized festivalgoers at the Forecourt of Konor’s Palace during the Krobo Heritage Concert on a memorable Saturday, October 26. Sharing the stage with music talents like Queen Asabia Cropper (The Queen of Highlife of Africa) and her brother Kenteman (King of Kente music of Africa), the event was elevated to a night of pure musical bliss. Backed by the talented GIHOC International Band, Bongofari showcased his unique musical style, which he fondly refers to as Odo Reggae. This genre seamlessly blends love lyrics sung in Twi with occasional hints of English and French, harmoniously intertwined with elements of Highlife, Reggae, and traditional rhythms.
Bongofari, a seasoned performer with a remarkable portfolio, has graced numerous prestigious events nationwide, solidifying his status as a prominent figure in the music industry. His exceptional talent was recognized at the prestigious Ghana Reggae Dancehall Awards (GRDA) in September 2023, where he was lauded for his significant contributions to the Reggae and Dancehall genres, as well as his overall impact on Ghanaian music culture.
Reflecting on his experience at Ngmayem 2024, Bongofari shared his admiration for the warm and welcoming festival attendees who exuded a strong sense of community spirit. He commended the event's organizer, Nene Domesiako, for orchestrating a successful celebration that not only honored tradition but also showcased a commitment to advancing local development initiatives. Bongofari's positive feedback highlighted the festival's ability to unite individuals in appreciation of their heritage, symbolizing a shared dedication to cultural preservation and growth.
